Synopsis:
The first feature documentary by Emmy award-winning filmmakers, the film is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. It takes the form of a letter from Waad Al-Kateab, a 26-year-old Syrian mother, to her daughter Sama recorded in the last days of the battle for Aleppo, Syria, telling the story of her life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama. Her camera captures stories of loss, laughter and survival as Waad wrestles with an impossible choice. And amidst all these, there is their daughter Sama, an eternal symbol of the love and hope that the violence of tyrants cannot destroy.
