Eligibility Criteria For Participants

We are looking for author-led creative feature-length documentary proposals with a diverse theme of human interest stories that deal with experiences related to society, culture, history, climate change, wildlife, environment, conservation, etc., aiming for international co-production. Primarily, the proposed projects should be in the production stage. Films in late development and early production stages are also eligible to apply.
- Applications must be submitted by the director and/or producer of the project, who belongs by nationality to an Asian country
- The submitted project’s principal filming location must be in an Asian country.
Who CAN NOT Apply
- Multiple entries from the same filmmaker/ producer will not be accepted
- Films which are already completed are not eligible for application.
- Producer/Director not belonging to Asian Countries.
- Applicants in any academic year of institutes or universities.
- Below eighteen years of age.
Application Method
- Online application through the link provided only.
- Applications by email or by post are not accepted.
- Entries without all necessary information or entries exceeding the word count will not be accepted.
- The visual material is mandatory and should not exceed 3-4 minutes.
- Entries without the required visual clip or exceeding the mentioned duration limit will not be accepted..
- Links to the visual material should remain active for at least four months following the deadline..
Application Requirements
- Logline (max. 30 words)
- Synopsis (max. 250 words)
- Treatment & Narrative Outline (max. 500 words) which should include: the story structure, character description, and artistic approach
- Biography and filmography of the director(s) (max. 150 words)
- Link to (audio)visual materials (see above): Maximum 4 minutes
- 2 Film Stills in jpeg, jpg or png format
Total No. of Projects to be selected
A maximum of 24 projects including awarded projects from other Asian markets/ forums. The selections for DocedgeKolkata 2026 shall be considered final and binding.

The Forum is open to:
- Human interest stories that reflect compelling personal or social realities
- Creative actuality narratives grounded in real-life events but told with innovative artistic intent
- Projects with a unique personal viewpoint or strong directorial perspective
- Feature-length documentaries (over 60 minutes)
Genres, including:
- Observational – capturing real life as it unfolds
- Personal essay – reflective, first-person storytelling
- SocialIssues– exploring justice, gender, education, health, conservation, etc.
- Biographical – portraits of individuals or communities
- Environmental – stories on climate change, conservation, ecological crises and sustainability
- Ethnographic – culture, tradition, identity
- Coming-of-age – youth, transformation, personal growth
- Historical/memory-based – revisiting the past through personal/archival lenses
