Samreen Farooqui is a filmmaker, producer, and commissioning editor from India with over 20 years of experience in non-fiction media, research, and narratives. Her work traces an India-in-transition through stories of changing socio-political realities, wildlife and environment, urban living and technology.
She co-founded Hit and Run Films, an independent factual films company, which produced critically acclaimed feature documentaries that have travelled across the world. The documentaries Out of Thin Air, Online and Available, Being Bhaijaan, and Gali have showcased at leading film festivals and appreciated for their nuanced storytelling.
In 2021, she established the film unit at Roundglass Sustain, a repository of India’s wildlife, environmental realities, and indigenous knowledge systems. Since then, she has led the production and commissioning of over 150 original short films. The initiative collaborates extensively with and mentors local filmmakers and practitioners with a nuanced understanding of local ecological issues.
Roundglass Sustain
Roundglass Sustain is a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to telling stories about India’s natural world. Through films, photography, writing, and multimedia, it documents the country’s rich biodiversity and creates a freely accessible digital encyclopedia of species and habitats.
These stories are developed in collaboration with communities, scientists, conservationists, and regional storytellers, ensuring diverse voices and perspectives. The work has contributed to policy influence, supported conservation efforts, and empowered grassroots initiatives.
The foundation shares their work freely ensuring it serves as a resource for education and action. Roundglass Sustain is a platform for change, nurturing a deeper connection between people and the natural world.
