Joel Farges is a French director, producer, and writer associated with the production company Kolam. His work reflects a longstanding engagement with international cinema, particularly in India and across Asia.

He directed three films in India and co-produced notable features including Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi by Sudhir Mishra and Nizhalkkuthu by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. In the 1980s, he also co-produced two films by Marguerite Duras and directed several feature films selected at major international festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, and Montreal.

After studying with Roland Barthes, he published books on influential filmmakers such as Jean‑Luc Godard, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Federico Fellini. Between 1995 and 2005, he produced twenty films across Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Asia, with multiple selections at Cannes, Venice, the Locarno Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival.

Since 2005, he has focused on scriptwriting, directing feature and documentary films, and producing independent documentaries.

Kolam Productions is an independent film production company, based in Paris. Created in 2003, Kolam Productions has produced around 60 hours of creative documentaries.

The company had always sought to promote personal and original views as perspectives on the world’s societies and cultures.
