Sean McAllister Audrius Stonys | Filmmaker | Lithuania

Audrius Stonys is a film director and producer, Professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, and Doctor of Arts. He is a recipient of the Lithuanian National Culture and Art Award.

Between 1984 and 1989, he studied film directing at the Vilnius State Conservatorium and, in 1989, continued his studies at the Jonas Mekas Film Anthology Archive in New York.

His films have received numerous international awards, including the Audience Award in Nyon, the Grand Prix in Split, and prizes at festivals in Bornholm, Florence, Győr, Neubrandenburg, Oberhausen, Bilbao, and San Francisco.

In 1992, his documentary Earth of the Blind was recognised by the European Film Academy as the Best European Documentary Film of the Year and received the Felix Award.

From 2004 to 2005, he worked as a documentary teacher at the European Film College in Denmark. He has delivered lectures and master classes in Kolkata, São Paulo, Seoul, Tokyo, Berkeley, Stanford, Belgrade, Barcelona, San Francisco, Carpi Modena, and Paris, and presented his films internationally.
