Producer of successful factual TV series for National Geographic and HBO Matrichka Bozhilova is now the producer of AGITPROP production house in Bulgaria. Bozhilova’s high-end author driven films have been selected and awarded at Cannes, Berlin, IDFA, Toronto, Sundance, Tribeca, Pusan and many other notable festivals and are broadcasted all over the world.

Bozhilova was the Producer of Father’s Day drama series for Bulgarian National Television and has also been jury member at numerous prestigious film festivals and lecturer at international documentary workshops. She has also mentored at European Women’s Audiovisual (EWA) Network apart from being a commissioner at the Re-Act Co-Development and The Malik Bendjelloul Memorial Foundation’s Fund. She is also the director of Balkan Documentary Center.

Her notable works are ‘Touch Me Not’ which won Golden Bear at Berlinale 2018, ‘Georgi and the Butterflies’ which received Silver Wolf at IDFA, ‘The Mosquito Problem and other stories’ screened at the Cannes, ‘Omellete’ screened at Sundance, ‘Palace for the People’ screened at Dok Leipzig 2018 and ‘The Boy Who Was a King’ screened at Toronto.

INSTITUTE PROFILE

Set up in 1997 by cinematographers Boris Missirkov and Georgi Bogdanov AGITPROP unites a group of professionals from different areas related to filmmaking, photography, music, and graphic design. Currently AGITPROP is a well-known production company working on creative documentaries, TV programs, commercial video spots, as well as art and advertising photography, graphic design, pre-press and print.

One of the first major projects of the company was Photomaton, 1999 – a monthly programme for Channel 1 of the Bulgarian National Television. The company primarily aims at promoting open-minded and talented directors and filmmakers. The company has produced a number of films, mainly creative documentaries with a strong author’s style. During the last years most of the company’s projects are in co-production with leading TV broadcasters such as: Channel 4, Sundance Channel, ITVS, ARTE, RAI, CBC, SVT, YLE, NRK, HOS.
