Martichka Bozhilova has been the Producer at AGITPROP since 1999 and is the Director of the Balkan Documentary Center, the institution behind two acclaimed training initiatives – BDC Discoveries and Docu Rough Cut Boutique. She has co-produced films with Germany, France, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, USA, Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Romania, OAE, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. Martichka has produced successful factual TV series for international networks such as National Geographic and HBO. She has also produced a Father’s Day drama series for the Bulgarian National Television and produced the first original Bulgarian TV series for ARTE. She has been the producer for “The Infinite Garden”, a feature film directed by renowned theatre director Galin Stoev. Her high-end author driven films have been selected and awarded at Cannes, Berlin, IDFA, Toronto, Sundance, Tribeca, Pusan and many others, and broadcasted all over the world. Among her films are: “Touch Me Not” (Golden Bear Winner, Berlinale, 2018), “Palace for the People” (DokLeipzig 2018, Dok Buster Award), “Georgi and the Butterflies” (Silver Wolf, IDFA), “The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories” (Cannes, Toronto), “Corridor #8” (Berlinale), “Omlette” (Sundance), “The Boy Who Was a King” (Toronto), “The Last Black Sea Pirates” (Visions du Reel, HotDocs), “Love and Engineering” (Tribeca, Karlovi Vary), “The Ladino Ladies’ Club” (IDFA).
Martichka is a member of the EDN Executive Committee and Chairperson of DokuFest, Prizren. She is also a jury member at numerous prestigious film festivals across the globe and a lecturer at a number of international documentary workshops. Martichka is a mentor at European Women’s Audiovisual (EWA) Network and a commissioner at the Re-Act Co-Development and The Malik Bendjelloul Memorial Foundation’s Fund.
